Reduces the Attack (-2) of an enemy's first strike against the unit.

Details[]

Relatively rare amongst non-hero units, Parry is a valuable defensive ability and is often a worthwhile investment for heroes. Unlike Charge, which only provides its bonus when the unit with the ability initiates an attack on their turn, Parry will reduce the attack of an opponent's first melee strike whether the unit with Parry initiated the attack or not, and will activate each time the unit is attacked on their opponent's turn, no matter how many different units attack them in the same turn.

Note that Parry will only reduce the attack of the Strike ability and its elemental variations (e.g. Magic Strike), not any other physically-based abilities. Notably, this means it does not reduce the attack of Round Attack. It also means it does not reduce the attack for the first hit (or any hit) of physically-based ranged abilities such as Archery. Parry will only reduce the attack of the first swing the opposing unit makes, not the second (or the third, if they possess Extra Strike). This makes Parry an excellent counter to Charge, as it increases the likelihood that the first swing will miss, which would prevent the bonus damage entirely.
