A structure is a special location on the world map that can be conquered, explored, or otherwise interacted with. Structures include cities, resource-generators such as mines and power nodes, other controllable locations such as tower forts and builder's guilds, as well as non-controllable locations such as castle ruins, springs of life and magic sanctuaries. All structures, whether controllable or not, behave like roads for the purpose of grounded units' movement across them.
